Our History

Historically, art films were simply golden age independent films; aimed a niche audience rather than an entire mass of people. In Europe, these films were called 'auteur' films. They were intended to be serious and artsy and experimental; not conforming to ideas and visuals that producers knew would automatically attract people. They were made primarily for aesthetic reasons, that focused on the dreams, feelings or motivation of characters. Critics argued that art films were too pretentious or self indulgent; too depressing and not enough of an escape from reality. I call bullshit on that!
Bed Head Entertainment was born during one of the worst years in modern history. People were trapped inside their homes and inside themselves. Feelings of isolation and loneliness were at terrible levels. Productions in Hollywood stalled due to Covid-19 and suddenly, the desire for great stories peaked. People didn't want the same meal simply served on different plates anymore. They craved something more. When humanity itself was in question that year, people searched for healthy doses to replace what and who've they've lost. These days, there are those who consider the artistic film a dead genre. Even independent films can have a price tag of upward of a few million dollars, which greatly steps outside the purpose of art films. Though there are still filmmakers who strive to maintain an artistry, such as David Lynch, Wong Kar-wai, Darren Aronofsky, and Terrence Malick.
As a die hard fan of these films (as overwhelming as they can be), I wanted to carve a place out in this genre for myself; a challenge -- being a black, female filmmaker. But it was worth it. Filling the world with visuals and narratives that do more than just entertain but also transform, is a privilege not available to everyone. Bed Head is an amalgamation of artists -- talented visual storytellers who possess the rare ability to identify a good story, not just a good idea. Keeping the art film genre alive is the sore purpose of Bed Head Entertainment. For the generation today and those to come!
